• Our efforts have been primarily focused in the San Pedro/Wilmington area, as a result of data that shows South Bay as one of the areas with the highest percent of children (0-17 years) with asthma. According to LA County Department of Public Health, 43,000 children have asthma. (Data attached)
  • In LAUSD, there is an estimate of 63,000 students with asthma.
  • About 1 in 10 children have asthma, making it the most common chronic condition for children.

The L.A. Trust Efforts

Through the Harbor Community Benefits Foundation, we’ve been able to fund our efforts to:

  • Reduce exacerbations in the San Pedro/Wilmington area
  • Coordinate CME/CEU trainings for healthcare providers and clinicians on EPR-3 guidelines with the support of experts from LAC+USC Breathmobile Program and Torrance Memorial Medical Center
  • Conduct in-home environmental assessments and provide support with asthma kits (air filters, green cleaning supplies, spacers, etc.)
  • Educate and build awareness for guardians to manage asthma for their children
  • Support LAUSD District Nursing with screening and management of asthmatic students
